Are you prepared for travel?

If you're planning to travel outside the UK, the surgery can help with travel advice and information about vaccines for travel. You must request travel advice at least 8 weeks before your departure date.

This is because some vaccines:

  • need to be given in advance to let your body develop immunity
  • involve a number of doses over weeks or months.

The NHS is only able to provide specific vaccinations to its NHS patients for travel. These include

  • Hepatitis A
  • Typhoid
  • Tetanus/Diphtherial/Polio
  • Cholera

Prior to your appointment

The wait for one of these appointments is usually 4-6 weeks so you need to book early to take advantage of free NHS travel advice.

If you need to have travel or vaccinations before the next NHS appointment is available then you will need to make an appointment at a private travel clinic where you will have to pay for the advice and vaccines.

Please complete an online form to find out what vaccinations you need.

We'll review your answers and contact you to arrange an appointment if you need to be vaccinated.

PLEASE contact the surgery in good time before your departure date (8 weeks prior to travel) to ensure a timely appointment with the nurse.

It is important you are covered with the correct vaccinations but please be aware we might not have the capacity to offer last minute travel appointments and you may need to attend a private travel clinic.

As from 1st September 2023, we are only able to offer a travel risk assessment and NHS funded travel vaccinations which is Hepatitis A and Typhoid. Any private vaccinations that are required will need to be sought from a private provider such a travel clinic or a pharmacist that provides this service.

NB at the moment we are experiencing a national shortage of vaccines so some will not be available.  The practice nurse will advise you of these at your appointment.
